  • Jamie Chilton
    Jamie Chilton

    Dr. Jamie Chilton is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF) (Tampa, FL). She received her BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Agnes Scott College (Decatur, GA) and her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) and Emory University (Atlanta, GA). Dr. Chilton has 20+ years of experience in a variety of research, technology, business, teaching and consulting roles in higher education, government, and the biotech industry. Her previous biotech project management work received multiple grant awards to develop innovative cell culture systems for disease modeling and drug discovery for academic, government, large biotech, and pharmaceutical clients. As a professor, Dr. Chilton is deeply passionate about instilling a systems thinking mindset in her students and enhancing their career development both in and out of the classroom. Her current research focuses on engineering management and engineering education. Dr. Chilton currently serves as Co-Faculty Lead of USF’s first Engineering Education Abroad Program, Program Director for COE’s Interns Present Scholarship Program, and Co-Faculty Advisor for USF’s Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Dr. Chilton resides in the Tampa Bay area, loves to garden, and takes every opportunity to travel and embark on outdoor adventures with her family.

  • Joanna Burchfield
    Joanna G. Burchfield

    Dr. Joanna G. Burchfield, co-editor and author of Teaching Communication Across Disciplines for Professional Development, Civic Engagement, and Beyond, is a Communication professor for the College of Engineering (CoE) at the University of South Florida (USF) where she leads a college-wide initiative to vertically integrate communication education into core engineering courses. Dr. Burchfield has over 16 years of experience in academic research, higher education instruction, and course design, and is guided by a teaching philosophy founded on growth mindset and systems thinking. Dr. Burchfield’s current research focuses on engineering communication education, student identity development, and cross-disciplinary communication rhetoric. She has presented her research at international, national, and regional communication and engineering conferences, and recently published a co-edited collection on cross-disciplinary communication instruction.

    Dr. Burchfield currently serves as Co-Faculty Lead of USF’s first Engineering Education Abroad Program, Vice-Chair of USF’s General Education Council, Faculty Advisor for the Engineering Graduate Communication Association, and Senior Personnel for CoE Funded Grants. Dr. Burchfield is also honored to serve as a Florida Master Naturalist, Cub Scout Den Leader, and Mom of two amazing young humans.

  • Eduardo Baez Toro
    Eduardo Baez-Toro

    Professor Eduardo Baez-Toro comes to USF with more than 30 years of Supply Chain management experience. Mr. Baez-Toro is a graduate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Right after graduation, he joined a consulting firm in the San Juan, P.R. before enrolling at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, where he completed his Masters in Industrial Engineering with a major in Quality Control & Assurance and a minor in Production and Logistics. During his career, Eduardo held roles of increasing responsibilities locally and internationally (Puerto Rico, Switzerland and United States) including: Production Supervisor, Materials Planner, Warehousing Supervisor, Lean/Strategic Planner, Manufacturing Manager, Engineering Manager, Plant Manager and WW Manufacturing Director , Vice President of Product Management for the Diabetes division , Vice President of Global distribution operations and most recently Vice President of Global Asset Management for the Orthopedics division. Eduardo also worked as a part-time professor at the University of Puerto Rico for few years where he taught various Industrial Engineering courses.

    Eduardo is known for his collaborative approach and passion for Diversity & Inclusion and people development which led him to become Co-Chair of Hispanic Organization for Leadership & Achievement (HOLA) for J&J, member of UnidosUS Corporate Advisory Board and member of the City College of NY Experiential Learning Advisory Board.
